"Genetic variation and its functional consequences in the context of health and disease"

Heini Natri will be talking about her research at this CEMinar. She is computational biologist and a functional genomicist. Her research focuses on better understanding the relationships between genetic variants, somatic alterations, DNA methylation, gene expression and clinically relevant complex phenotypes. She is widely interested in how evolution has shaped the patterns of genetic variation in diverse populations and how genetic variation and environmental effects contribute to various molecular and complex phenotypes.

Dr. Natri use a systems genomic approach to analyze data from several large databases, such as the Genotype-Tissue Expression Project (GTEx), The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation’s CoMMpass project. In particular, she is interested in how differences in regulatory functions may contribute to observed biases in disease occurrence and etiology between the sexes and ethnicities.
