Volunteers will be helping with one phase of burrowing owl relocation work. They will be constructing extensions to pre-constructed burrows. The work is necessary to prevent vandalism and to provide owlets with easier exit and entry to burrow cavities. The work is not difficult but there are many steps to follow in order to construct the extensions properly. Instruction, tools and gloves will be provided.  The owls will be relocated to the site in the fall of 2019 because their original homes have been destroyed, usually due to development. To date, we have built about 250 burrows at the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area and we have released 116 owls at Rio Salado as of January 1, 2019.
